R. Raymond Issa, Ph.D., J.D., P.E., F.ASCE, NAC, API is an engineer, lawyer and computer scientist and UF Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Advanced Construction Information Modeling (CACIM), Rinker School of Construction Management, University of Florida. Raymond has been at UF since 1992 and has held various faculty and administrative positions including Rinker School Director and Director of Research and Graduate Studies, and College Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Director of Ph.D. Program. Raymond specializes and has taught courses in the areas of BIM/VDC, AI/ML, Digital Twins, facilities management, industrialized construction, construction management, construction law, information technology, ontologies and semantics and structures and foundations and is an advocate for technology integration in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) industry. Recently, his team secured a $4 million grant from UF and Autodesk to conduct research as well as develop courses in industrialized construction.
Raymond is in demand as a keynote speaker on the digitalization of the AECO industry. Raymond has completed over $15 million in grants; his authorship includes over 400 publications, and he has chaired over 350 master’s and over 65 Ph.D. committees. Raymond was elected an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Fellow (2009); received the ASCE Computing in Civil Engineering Award (2012) for outstanding contribution to the application of computing to the practice of civil engineering; the ASCE Torrens Award (2024) for significant contributions to ASCE journals and magazines; was elected to the Pan American Academy of Engineering (API) (2014);and the National Academy of Construction (2024) He also received the Best Paper Award (2015) from the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (JCEM)and served as Chief Editor of the ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering (2016-2023).
Raymond currently serves as Editor Emeritus of the ASCE Journal of Computing in CE; Editorial Board Member of Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (ECAM); Chair of the International Society of Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE) BOD; Member, Board of Directors of the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER); ASCE representative to and Vice-Chair for North America of the Pan-American Federation of Engineering Societies (UPADI). Raymond is also the Chair of the UF Faculty Senate and a member of or active in several other organizations including several ASCE committees, Academia Panamericana de Ingenieria (API), National Academy of Construction (NAC), Sigma XI Scientific research honor society, and Conseil International du Bâtiment (CIB) W78 IT in Construction.
