David M. Thomas
David M. Thomas is recognized as one of the leading executives in the information technology and services business. His broad range of experiences running global businesses at IBM and at IMS Health demonstrate his leadership in large innovative organizations.
He served as Chairman and CEO of IMS Health, the global leader in information and consulting solutions for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries from end of 2000 until March, 2006.
As CEO, Thomas reignited the growth of IMS by increasing the company’s investment in core data assets, analytics and new product development, dramatically strengthening the company’s consulting and services capabilities and expanding into news markets and new customers. At the same time, he moved decisively to ramp up the pace of innovation and enhance IMS’s global execution.
Prior to IMS, Thomas was a Senior Vice President and Group Executive at IBM and a member of IBM’s Corporate Executive Committee which oversees all worldwide business operations. In his 28 year career at IBM he was responsible for a number of domestic and international businesses. His assignments ranged from General Manager of the midrange systems manufacturing and development business, to President of IBM’s distribution channels sales, to General Manager of IBM Asia Pacific region, to General Manager of IBM North American, to the senior executive responsible for all large customers of IBM globally, to General Manager of IBM’s worldwide personal computing business. The revenue range of these business was from $4B to over $51B with direct reporting employees of up to 55,000 people.
Thomas holds an M.S. in Engineering and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida. He received the University of Florida’s Distinguished Graduate Award in 1996. David also lettered as a pitcher on the Gator baseball team. Thomas currently serves as Chairman of Fortune Brands Home and Security Board of Directors, a Fortune 300 company with brands such as Moen, Masterbrand Cabinets, and Masterlock. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Interpublic Group, one of the largest holding companies of advertising agencies and communication services. In addition he is a member of the Fidelity Investments Board of Trustees. Fidelity is a global leader in mutual funds and financial services.
He and his wife, Carol, also a UF graduate, live in Windermere, Florida. They have three children all graduates of UF graduate programs and six grandchildren who are future Gators.
